Erotic Authors - What Makes Them Tick? An Interview with Kassie Burns

Dear reader,

As a consumer of erotica, have you ever wondered how the writers of those titillating stories, which make us wet or hard, come up with their wild scenarios. Have they performed what they write about? Do they have fantasies? Have they indulged themselves or are they all talk and no show? (like me.)

I don’t care what they eat. I want to know who they ate or would like to eat! What motivates them? What gets them going?

Shall we find out. This week’s person of interest is the multipublished author Kassie Burns.

Welcome Kassie, seeing how we are trying to get a feel for the sensuous writer, my questions may be a little pointed, so if you have a problem with a question, just go to the next one.

First question: How did you start writing erotica?

I’ve always had a bawdy imagination from childhood on. And I’ve always wanted to be a writer. I started out writing fantasy under another name and had some gratifying success in that field, but I kept getting the urge to put some of my sexual fantasies down on paper too. Eventually, I succumbed and then I was hooked! Writing anything else seemed way too tame!

How long have you been writing erotica and would you prefer to write anything else?

I’ve been writing erotica for about five years now. I’ve moved from pure fantasy and SF to fantasy and SF erotic romance and I’m having more fun writing than ever, so why go back? I get to combine the fantastic adventures I love to write with some sweet romance and hot sex. Perfection!

Do you feel you offer anything special to your readers?

Besides good writing, lol! I’m proud of my plots which seem to come to me out of nowhere and combine a lot of wild and fascinating elements. Mother Earth is a star in one of my books, for example. (Imagine what she could do for your sex life.) And another features a sexual healer with all the right equipment.

What are your writing goals?

My main goal always seems to be finding the time to write. And, of course, my lover would like to see me pen a best-seller equivalent to J.K. Rowling. Apart from those modest goals, I’m mainly interested in writing something that gives me pleasure, because if I enjoy it, the reader will too.

As an erotic writer, you are assumed to be a sexual person. Do you have any sexual hang-ups?

Apparently not, since I haven’t run into anything I wouldn’t do yet. I am in a committed relationship, though, which does limit the possibilities a little–no visits to sexual communes or nudie beaches allowed!

As an erotic writer and a sexual person, do you have any sexual fantasies?

I’ve had sexual fantasies ever since I can remember. I always have some sort of sexual “story” playing out in my head. I pity the poor dried up person who doesn’t have sexual fantasies. They’ve helped me through many a boring day.

Have you acted out your fantasy? If you haven’t would you consider living out your fantasy?

I’ve acted out a few. If you want to see what they are, check out my books. I’ll just mention showers and fireplaces and secluded, wooded areas.

From where do you get your main characters?

Darned if I know. They just appear out of nowhere and take over my life.

What is your preferred style, when writing erotica, ie. m/f f/f, m/m, mfm, bdsm, etc?

I write what I know, which is m/f. However, as with anything else, you do have to learn and grow and I notice my characters are getting more adventurous lately. They’re edging toward m/f/f and mfm. Plus, I always enjoy throwing in a bit of bdsm.

What do you personally look for in a sexual partner?

I’m not looking because, baby, I’ve got, and I’m happy! I look for someone who’s never boring, bright and witty and a good conversationalist, and, oh, yes, good in bed.

Doing what to your sexual partner, gets you excited?

Hey, just looking at him gets me excited. I’m easy. I’m also big on foreplay. What woman isn’t? So the kissing and touching and stroking of certain sensitive parts gets me very excited indeed.

Which celebrities or other well known individuals, if any, do you drool over?

I love Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt and I adore David Boreanaz who plays special agent Seeley Booth on Bones.

Do you sometimes get turned on by your own erotic writing?

Something’s wrong if I don’t. When you start to feel a little hot and bothered yourself, you know your writing is smokin’.

If so, do you do anything about it?

That’s where the discipline of being a seasoned writer comes in. … Okay, I can see you’re not buying that one. Yeah. Let’s just say I enjoy the fruits of my labors.

Have you ever participated in any of the wild scenarios of which you have written?

Don’t I wish. I’m not a shapeshifter or a sexual healer and my psychic abilities are limited. But I have participated wholeheartedly in my imagination.

What is your current release? Please post a blurb or tell us about it.

My latest release is Scent of Desire. Here’s the blurb:

Angela Bennett, captain of the space freighter Hawk’s Flight, has a dangerous secret: her scent drives men wild with lust. She has no idea why, so she spends her life alone in space with only an android for company.

Blane Llewelyn, a renowned sculptor on Tau Delta, lives the life of a recluse because his scent triggers uncontrollable passion in women. Only a journey to Kyffin, the mysterious world he left ten years ago, can provide an answer to the question why. It’s a journey he’s determined to make.

Landings are always dangerous for Ange, but when she puts down on Tau Delta, she’s attacked and nearly raped when a spaceport worker gets a whiff of her scent. At the spaceport in search of transport, Blane rescues Ange. Their attraction is sudden, immediate, and overpowering; against her better judgment, or perhaps in the lust-inspired absence of it, she agrees to provide him transport.

Stalked through space, hunted by Blane’s brother Ryol, the two make their way to Kyffin. Despite their growing passion, Blane won’t confess his secrets. Ange wants to trust Blane. She thinks she’s falling in love - or is that just the scent of desire?

In your estimation, what is the sexiest book/story you have written? And do you have a sexy passage that you would share with us.

That’s sort of like asking a mom to pick her favorite kid. I do love them all. So … for pure m/f loving, Disaster Earth; for fantasy sex that would scorch asbestos, Dreams of Desire, for an alpha male to drool over, Sexual Rx, and for a romance with a darker edge, my latest, Scent of Desire.
Here’s a little excerpt from Scent of Desire:

Blane’s eyes widened, but he bent down to welcome Ange’s kiss without hesitation. Their lips met and the touch of his sent a rush of exquisite pleasure coursing through her. His mouth seized hers without hesitation, his kiss hard and searing at first as he took possession of her. But as his arms surrounded her, his kiss softened and his lips slid across hers like wet silk. He feathered warm kisses around her mouth and up her cheek bones.

“Ange.” He breathed her name with tender reverence in her ear.
Her knees went weak with desire. It was unbelievable how much she craved his touch. She ran her hands through his hair, frightened by a longing more powerful than anything she’d ever felt. “Blane.” She whispered his name in amazement. Her arms looped around his neck. She didn’t care. She’d risk anything to feel his body pressed against hers.
He trembled as she pressed closer, and she knew that a matching tide of emotion was exploding through him. He bent his head and his mouth claimed hers again, clinging to her with a fierce, terrible need. His lips moved over hers urgently, with rising desire. Her long suppressed passions, fed by years of loneliness, rose to meet his in a wild, uncontrollable crescendo.

Sighing, he slid his tongue into her mouth, probing, each velvety thrust a promise of deeper intimacies to come. She sagged against him, her body melting into his arms, all coherent thought shredded by the sudden release of long-suppressed passion.

His scent was all around her now like a cloak. A warm daze enveloped her, a cocoon of desire that drove away all fear. Her sigh echoed his as she welcomed his touch. His hands moved from her waist upward, exploring the curve of her ribcage, the soft swell of her breasts. His fingers brushed over her nipples beneath the concealing fabric of her shirt, and they tightened in immediate response. Surprised, she shuddered with desire. He felt her trembling and pulled her closer, grinding his hips into her pelvis, his hard cock pressed against her stomach in blatant evidence of his arousal.

For the first time, that evidence of a man’s desire didn’t fill her with fear. She wanted his cock against her body, inside her body. The desire felt right, natural. His hands moved from her breasts to the seams that held her shirt closed. With a low growl, he pulled at them and they split apart. Her breasts spilled out, into his cupped hands.
“Gods — you — smell — so — wonderful.” He panted each word, his voice broken by the power of his need for her. Looking into his eyes, she saw them turn black with the growing lust that surged around them like a gathering storm. He squeezed her breasts, his thumbs sweeping over the sensitive nipples …
